Born in Covent Garden in 1775, JMW Turner's talent was discovered when he was very young and he created paintings, drawings and sketches continuously for more
than 60 years until his death in 1851. But it took most of that time for him to develop the brilliant, free weaving of color and light which became his own style. He was particularly popular among architects who commissioned drawings of buildings in perspective. Britain's Royal Academy first displayed Turner paintings in 1791 and continued to do so at almost all
of it's annual exhibitions the rest of his life.

John Ruskin credited Turner with having “innocence of eye “ and the ability to look at things in a fresh, childlike manner. Turner himself described his work saying: "I did not paint it to be understood but I wished to show what such a scene was like." Brightness, reflection, intensity, and the power of elemental forces are the hallmarks of Turner's work.

In Turner's copy of 'Theory of Color' on the page where Goethe said, "If the totality of color is presented to the eye from the outside in the form of an object, it will be pleasing to the eye, because it thereby encounters the sum of its own activity as reality." Turner wrote in the margin: "This is the object of Painting!"

Some experts are of the opinion that Turner's work "cannot be reproduced". We agree that it is no easy task but we believe the observational nature of Turner's paintings can be revealed if the observer (our painter) allow himself to be become actively involved.
