Rembrandt van Rijn painting The Prophet Jeremiah Mourning over the Destruction of Jerusalem, 1630, oil on canvas, 32 x 25.6 in / 81.3 x 65 cm, US$320

The Prophet Jeremiah Mourning over the Destruction of Jerusalem” by Rembrandt van Rijn was completed in 1630, the same year he completed his oil on panel Judas Returning the Thirty Pieces of Silver, as well as Samson Betrayed by Delilah, Self-portrait with Wide-open Eyes and The Raising of Lazarus.
That year Rembrandt's father died, the English crown bought two of his paintings, and many copies of The Raising of Lazarus appeared.

The Prophet Jeremiah Mourning over the Destruction of Jerusalem is among the early works of Rembrandt in which his leitmotif of conceptual structure was a single or totally dominant figure

that is totally bound up in the course of an historical event. Rembrandt masterfully turns an individual person, their expressions and posture, into a history painting, despite Jeremiah's mourning being purely internal in nature.
Our totally hand painted oil on canvas reproduction is 32" x 25.6 in / 81.3 x 65 cm. This stunning and thought provoking painting depicts a somber even in Jewish history during which Jeremiah was Israel's major prophet. During Rembrandt van Rijn's 44 years of creativity, he proved his prowess in effectively capturing the interplay between the light and dark elements of a painting  while also using a varied application of paint — dabs, brushstrokes, smudges and scrape marks. Goethe gave him the title “Rembrandt the Thinker”.
After a short apprenticeship, at the age of 19 Rembrandt set up his own studio in his home town of Leiden in the Netherlands.
During this period almost all of his paintings

depict the climax of the historical event and action, making the observer a “witness”. He was a master of this stop-action technique.
But the feature which prevailed throughout his career was his mastery of the attitudes and expressions of the figures in his paintings and his ability to accurately depict animal and human anatomy in every conceivable posture.
